Thank you for your interest in adopting from 4 Paws Sake PA !
The adoption process can take a few weeks, although it is generally shorter. 4 Paws Sake PA is an all-volunteer organization doing placement and adoption work outside of our daily work and family lives. We strive for a simple, efficient process that also ensures placement of dogs into responsible, loving forever homes. Applicants are updated during the approval process and we welcome any questions you may have.
Step 1 – Submit an adoption application
Potential adopters can apply for a specific dog when that dog becomes available. If applying, please be sure to read the dog’s information thoroughly to determine if they are a possible match for your family, including children and other pets, lifestyle, and activity level. *Please note, ALL cats or dogs currently residing in the home MUST be spayed/neutered to be considered for adoption. They also must be current on core vaccinations, including rabies (or have an exemption letter from a veterinarian) as is required by state laws.
Step 2 – Application review/references
After reviewed, the application is assigned to a 4 Paws Sake PA representative, who will contact personal and veterinary references.
Step 3 – Home visit
Home visits are a crucial part of our adoption process and are done to ensure each prospective home is safe and dog friendly.
Step 4 – Meet and Greets
Once a home visit has been completed with no concerns, a 4 Paws Sake PA volunteer will contact the applicant(s) to schedule a meet and greet based on the availability of the applicant(s), foster family, and a 4 Paws Sake PA representative. These meetings will include all family members and any dogs currently residing in the applicant’s home.
Step 5 – Adoption day!
To finalize an adoption, a 4 Paws Sake PA representative will thoroughly review the adoption contract and additional information in the adoption packet with you. We will also discuss ways to successfully transition your newly adopted dog into his or her new home.
